Abstract

The article describes the conceptual problem of forming the term of the complex identity in the modern humanities based on the analysis of Russian and foreign researches. In the history of science, the conceptual definition of the term was developed in the last third of the 20th century in sociology and social psychology; however, since the beginning of the 21st century, the term has found an applicable meaning due to the interdisciplinary studies that allowed the researchers to describe complex forms of identity in the dynamically developing world. At the beginning of the 21st century, the interest for identity as a cultural problem increased, therefore creating the need of studying the identity in the context of the modern culture and intercultural relations. The culturological problematics integrate the existing ideas into a conceptual definition of the complex identity term and align the research priorities with the modern sociocultural relations.
